After a planning and consultation phase, Folkestone Gardens is now being refurbished.
Key parts of the scheme are new and welcoming park entrances from Rolt Street, Childers Street and Grinstead Road. On Grinstead Road of new housing and office units with direct access to the park has also started.
The ‘Quietway Route 2′ from Greenwich to Waterloo will go through the park and past Cafe Luca connecting Childers Street with Surrey Canal Road. Quietways will be a network of radial and orbital cycle routes throughout London. The Quietway through Folkestone Gardens will be the first one to be opened by Transport for London (TFL) in early 2016. The cycle lane though the park will be open for 24 hours every day and better lighting and access introduced.
Around the existing basketball court a playground for small children will be built and new seating areas and benches set up. The design of the new play area will be integrated into the undulating character of the park with new planting along Rolt Street. A new state of the art skate facility will be part of this new and exciting development. And so will be Cafe Luca!
