Art at Festa – Private View on 22 February
Illán Santos is a Madrid-born architect and artist based in London. He is a RIBA Associate and a member of IHBC and ICOMOS and has been involved in a UNESCO conservation project on the historic citadel of Erbil in Iraq, as well asnumerous other heritage conservation projects in Spain and the UK.
Painting in a variety of media, watercolour and ink, his focus is on creating fluid effects that convey depth and movement, using colours which, in some of his works, include obsolete natural pigments from a 1940s watercolour box belonging to his father, on vintage Whatman watercolour paper. Although they do not feature in this show, his detailed pencil drawings hint at his technical background, while remaining highly intimate and personal.
This is his first solo exhibition in the UK, although he has twice shown in group exhibitions in Spain.
